Information for New Volunteers

Meghan

It would be good if future volunteers could pick up the rabies project from me.
Linda Yeah, and I'd like to tell them about this maintenance survey that I'm doing.
Rowen And the education resources.  It would be good to tell them about that too.
Eden Well, why don't we construct a list and give it to them.
Malcolm (stops picking nose) Huh?!  What were we talking about?

Minutes

Minutes from previous volunteer meetings can be found here.

Resources

  • Malcolm has some school homework exercises in English and Mathematics that he has prepared.  They can be found here.

  • Any education resources (such as textbooks) that could be brought with you to The Philippines would be great. The airline may transport then for free if you explain that it will be used for charity.

  • There are some teaching resources in the drawer in the bamboo hut.

  • Meghan has some education resources that she has been sent from England.

Projects In Need Of Momentum

Rabies Education

Meghan was written a general letter that could be sent to people like the World Health Organisation about the rabies situation in Dumangas.  It asks for any assistance they could give, both financial and practical.

It is thought that a public education campaign would be beneficial.  A door-to-door campaign could run in conjunction with the River Pollution Education program to save costs.

School Maintenance

Linda is in the process of gathering information about the standard of some of the local school buildings.  Needless to say, it is somewhat lacking.

The information gathered by Linda could be used by future volunteers to direct their maintenance efforts.

Areas identified include:

  • Comfort Rooms (CRs / Toilets / Restrooms)
Some Comfort Rooms desperately require an upgrade

  • Running Water

  • Safety
Some of the school buildings are downright dangerous
