Happy 34th Birthday Crazymalc! cake_t.JPG

17th May 2007
And another year wraps up!  Thirty-four years old today.  Does that qualify as middle age yet?

I was due to arrive in South Korea on the 16th of May, so I spent a lot of time moaning to people that I would be noddy-no-friends when I arrived in South Korea as I won't know a soul and will have nobody to celebrate my birthday with.

So, being the wonderful people that they are, they decided to throw me a party!  Yay!  I even had my own special birthday cake!   Masarap as they say in the Philippines.  Much eating and singing of karaoke ensued.  A very cool night.

In my last birthday entry, I described the mental state of my previous birthdays as follows:

  • 30th: Blubbering Mess

  • 31st: Lost and frightened

  • 32nd: Impotent anger

  • 33rd: Excited

If I were to add one for my 34th, it would be: "Happy, tinged with a hint of sadness".  I was happy because I was having great times with good friends in the Philippines.  I was a little sad because I was about to leave for South Korea and would miss my friend in the Philippines.

Update: I am actually in South Korea when I write this.  I went for a night on the town with my fellow student teachers and some Korean friends on the night of my birthday.  The found out about my birthday somehow (probably because I told them about my birthday) and bought me another birthday cake and sang Happy Birthday. Hooray!
