Kwak's Language Institute - Just the Facts Mam!2nd June 2007I'm working at a placed called Kwak's Language Institute here in Incheon, South Korea. Kwak's is located on the fifth floor of this building. I work along with four other foreign teachers (three from the U.K. and one from the Republic or Ireland) and five Korean teachers. Each class is broken up into half hour intervals. A Korean teacher takes one half, and the foreign teacher takes the other half. The classes start at 3 p.m. everyday. The teachers are expected to come in one hour before hand to prepare for their classes. There is a cramped staff room where we all prepare our lessons. All the kids go to a public school as well as Kwak's. They work pretty hard over here! Some of them won't leave until 9:30 p.m. The typically work every Saturday as well. The age range of the students is from about eight to sixteen and some adult students as well. The adult students tend to be businessmen. A typical class has between eight and ten students. A typical class involves going through a typical "Learn to Speak English" book. CDs and tapes are usually listened to during the course of a lesson. The basic salary package here is about 2,000,000 won (~$NZ 3,000) a month. You also get your flights reimbursed, free accommodation and a bonus of one month's salary is you stay for a full year.
