Losing my job at Kwak's Language Institute1st July 2007 Yikes! So how did that deal go down? Something like this. The student roll had been slowly dropping in recent times at Kwak's Language Institute. Mr. Kwan - the owner of Kwak's - felt that he had one too many foreign teachers to justify the roll. It was also felt that the spiffy new computer lab could also take the place of a fluent speaker of English. The powers-that-be asked several of the foreign teachers if they wouldn't mind moving to a different Hagwon (language school). Contractually speaking, they could force anybody to do this. They were merely asking and promised to find a new Hagwon for the teachers and have the conditions of their contract carried over. I was the only teacher to say yes. Why did I say yes? Well, three reasons. Due to some friendly legal-type advice, I've decided to remove my reasons for leaving. If you want to know the inside goss, just send me an email. For now though, I'm removing the rest of this article until I've left Korea. Malcolm
