Goals for Africa

7th September 2006
It is always good to have goals.  Here are my goals for my time here in Uganda.

A Car for Travis
Travis, the head of MACRO, is forever organising transport for himself and volunteers.  Our village trips are inevitably delayed as Travis frantically tries to arrange a car for us.  Sometimes he manages to hire one.  Sometimes he manages to borrow one.  Sometimes we have to settle for public transport.

MACRO needs a car.  No two ways about it.  Leslie suggested several organisations to me that are in the business of donating cars.  I will do my best to get Travis one before I go.

It it interesting to note how this goal compares to this saga.

Let's apply my Best Practice Volunteerism questions to this goal.

  • Would this of happened if I wasn't here?
It might have, but it's doubtful.  My being here for six months makes attaining this goal a real possibility.

  • Will this continue to happen when I am gone?
Yep.  If I get the car, then MACRO will get years after years of good use from it.

Goals should always be specific and measurable.  So, if I am to achieve this goal by the time I leave, then the following needs to be in place:

  • MACRO has a car

Pretty simple really.  If MACRO does not have a goal by the time I leave then I would of not obtained my goal.

This project is a big 'un and gets its own page.

Other goals may be added at a future date.
