Getting my freak on with a giraffe
2nd October 2006
Stephanie - my niece - just
loves giraffes. She wanted me to promise to bring her back a baby
one. I told her that there was no way that one would fit in my
suitcase so she'd have to go without. I instead promised to bring
her back some photos of giraffes in the wild.
While in Kenya, I visited a giraffe sanctuary
and got some photos off for her. The
giraffes were in a large enclosed sanctuary, so that weren't technically
in the wild and so I've only half fulfilled my promise to
Stephanie. I hope to go on a safari before I go, which will guarantee
an abundance of wild giraffe photo taking opportunities. This is
all assuming that I don't run out of money.
There were also some very cool warthogs
wandering around the giraffe's feet.
The sanctuary itself was well run. Very clean, tidy and the
giraffes were well looked after. The giraffes spent their days
wandering around and occasionally visiting the raised feeding
platform.
If you were slightly cool, you'd feed them pellets with an outstretched
hand.
If you were quite cool, you'd put your hand around
its neck while you were feeding it.
If you were Crazymalc-cool, you'd put a pellet in your mouth and have
the giraffe grab it from your mouth.
