Going on a Date with Thirteen Women and two guys
9th March 2006
The final exams finished on the 7th
of March. As a mini-celebration and a mini-goodbye, I decided to
take the teachers and the student teachers at Pulao Elementary School
out for some dinner and dancing.
Never before have I taken so many beautiful ladies out on a
"date" with me. Probably never again either. Two
males - the Head Teacher and Ricky, a student
teacher - came as well. I was tempted to say that they couldn't
come, but that probably would of been rude...
I enjoyed getting to know the student teachers a bit better. I
know Sherlyn quite well, as she is the student
teacher for grade five, and the rather aptly named Beauty.
I already know most of the teachers quite well.
We all piled into a mini-van I rented (1500
pesos - $NZ 37.50) and headed off into the city.
I asked one of teachers to find somewhere nice, but not too
expensive, to have dinner at. I was happy to pay something like
400 pesos ($NZ 10) per teacher. That's a typical mid-range
restaurant budget. The place that was chosen was pretty crappy if
I'm honest. A step down from McDonalds. It was a very basic
chicken place.
The teachers very shy about ordering. Maybe just a little embarrassed
that I was buying them all dinner. I took over the ordering, which
was much easier. "Gimme 16 sio-paos, 5 chickens, 4 of
those, 6 of them and 6 of whatever they are." It worked out
at a very cheap 100 pesos per head. We had a good time eating
together, which was probably the main thing.
After the dinner, the teachers wanted to wander around a nearby
mall. I tagged along and made jokes about wanting to buy
whitening soap. Mostly I felt like having a Lion Red...
Dancing and Karaoke
After dinner we headed off to a karaoke place. I hired one of
their specific rooms they had set aside for
private parties.
Needless to say, there was lots of dancing, singing
and drinking. Most of the teachers took
a particular liking to this pitcher of strange blue
alcoholic stuff that I ordered. So much so that I then ordered
some strange pink stuff, followed by strange green stuff and so on.
Some of teachers were a little embarrassed by what I was
spending. The total bill was around 6000 pesos ($NZ 150).
That would be 24 days wages for a teacher. I think I most enjoyed
seeing them let there hair down a bit and have some fun in an up market
place. I'm not sure how often they'll get to do this sort of thing
again.
We planned to go to a disco * afterwards, but Sir Jolo
felt that since we danced at the Karaoke club, there wasn't really a
need to go out dancing. I think Sir Jolo was the only person who
felt this way, but since he is the principal of the school, all the
teachers begrudgingly agreed.
I got several texts from student teachers from the back of the van
begging me to ask Sir Jolo to change his mind. One student teacher
felt that this was a once in a lifetime opportunity and didn't want to
miss out. I didn't feel it was appropriate to "pull
rank" on Sir Jolo, so we all headed home.
To keep everybody happy though, I said I would take them all out
again to celebrate the student teachers graduation. There is no
way I could disappoint a van full of beautiful women...
* Defiantly wasn't planning to go to
a nightclub though.
