Goodbye my friend
7th August 2006
The Protector
I liked the way you looked
after me.
I liked the way you kept the sun off my face.
I liked the way you kept the rain off my head.
I liked the way you could provide a dark corner to hide in.
The Giver
I liked the way I could share you with
others.
I liked the way that everyone wanted to wear
you.
I liked the way people smiled when they had
you on.
I liked the way you made little kids feel
special.
The Flawed One
I liked the way you were not perfect.
I liked the way the platted leather around
your brim would often come lose.
I liked the way that the dust from the
Philippines and Africa was ground deep into your leather.
I liked the way the sun had bleached you in
an uneven way.
I liked the way that you were stained by a
drunk Englishman and his beer.
I like the way you had a "Classic
Kiwi" badge on your outside and a "Made in Australia"
tag on the inside.
I liked the way you had character.
The Friend
I miss you my friend.
I wish you were on my head.
I wish you were not on some unknown African's
head.
