Humid days in Quezon City

30th September 2005
Meh.  My camera has gone the way of the dodo.  Will hopefully get one tomorrow.  A camera that is.  Dodo's are quite hard to find at the moment.

A cruisy sort of a day.  Pom (Raymund's wife) took me to a western style shopping mall in town.  I purchased some local currency and a local SIM card for my cellphone.  My new number can be found here.  I had grilled milkfish, garlic rice and mango juice for lunch.  Very yummy.

Pom dropped me back at the hostel and I spent the afternoon walking, sleeping and listening to music.  Not all at the same time though.

The hostel is right in the centre of the university.  The surrounding area is probably not as bad as the slums, but there were still huge holes in the pavements, beggars and the invetiable street stalls.  Damn, I wish I had my camera...

Rowan, a fellow volunteer who is also teaching in Dumangas, arrived today.  His luggage did not.  It is somewhere near Africa apparently.  Rowan is from England and is very cool.  He says Chin Chin when he toasts.

We all went to a local food place for dinner.  We huddled underneath an umbrella while huge cracks of thunder peeled across the sky and lightning stabbed at the ground like an inefficent assasin*.  I munched on my pork stew, the rain pelted down and Raymund answered my questions about Filipino politics.  He talked of interim ruling councils and revolutions.  Desperate measures for desperate times.

Some beer (and diet coke) was consumed and a good time was had by all.

Tomorrow we are heading to some thermal springs for a two day training course.  Sounds like fun.

*The inefficent assasin is blatantly stolen from Terry Pratchett.  The Turtle Moves...
