JeepneysWhen the Americans "officially" left after the cataclysmic eruption of Mt. Pinuatubo in 1991, they abandoned numerous Army jeeps. Several industrious Filipinos took these jeeps, added benches on the back with enough room to sit about 12 people and then painted them every colour of the rainbow. They are used for cheap public transport around the Philippines. Pictures can be found here and here. Correction: The Jeepney's were left here after WWII, not 1991. This makes them all about 60 years old. |
