How to play PusoyPusoy is a variation of Poker. First of all, everybody except the dealer puts in their bets. The easiest way to explain how the game works is with an example, so here goes! Each player is dealt thirteen cards:
Each player then makes three poker hands. The third hand only has three cards in it. From the above cards, you could make:
There may be a better combination than this, but this is pretty good. You then arrange your groups of cards into good, better and best. Failing to do so will get you disqualified. I did this once, and automatically lost the peso that I was betting. You then arrange your cards as shown below, and hand them to the dealer. The top hand (pair of queens) is called the head, the middle the body and the bottom the tail.
The dealer then compares each group of cards in both hands (head vs. head, body vs. body and so on...). Who ever has the most number of wins, wins the bet. If one player wins all three combinations, they get a "Pusoy". This means that the loser has to pay an extra pre-agreed amount. A "Pusoy" was an extra peso in the games I was playing. The dealer repeats this process with the two other players. The dealer will often win big or lose big. People who are not actually playing the game will often make side bets. They might put ten pesos on a player beating the dealer or vice versa. One variation on the game is called Black Pairs. Everyone puts a peso into a pot at the start of the hand. If you've got the highest black pair (ten or lower) then you get the four pesos. You can also win with a lay-down. A lay-down is a very good set of cards and is an automatic win. Lay-down hands are as follows:
If the dealer and another player both get a lay-down, then all bets are off. Questions? Comments? Try contacting
