Technical Stuff on the Project that Wasn't
I planned to gather the following information about the farms in
Dumangas and then feed that information into a
database.
- Rice Plantations
This is dominant industry in Dumangas. The system I was
designing would track:
- Planting method used
- The seed used
- The topography of the land
- The type of soil
- Weather data
- Crop yield
- Pests and Disease
- Fertilizer used
- Any other crops that were on the land
- Fisheries
Dumangas is the number one producer of Bangus (milkfish) in the
whole of Panay. The system I was designing would track:
- The type of fishpond
Saltwater or fresh
- The type of fish grown
- The expected vs. actual yields
- Fingerlings (baby fish) used
- Mortality rates
- Fertilizer used
- pH levels
- Salinity levels
- Water temperature
The system was also going to track the river fishing industry and
would track such things as:
- The method used for catching fish
- How much the fish was being sold for
- The type of fish caught
- Livestock
Livestock is a relatively small industry in Dumangas, but I wanted
to include it for completeness sake. I would track such things
as:
- Type of livestock
- Number of livestock
- Vaccinations administered
- Information on crossbreeding programs
Phew! As you've probably guessed by now, this was going to be a
pretty comprehensive project. This was typical of the type of
thing I would do at Enabling Technologies.
